Standards and inspection of water slides

What the standards require, and how we include that in the design.

The slide itself: NEN-EN 1069

We design water slides to NEN-EN 1069-1 and NEN-EN 1069-2. These set requirements for the free space around the rider and the landing area, among other things, and limits for the ride. We simulate the ride at the design stage.

The pool and its equipment

NEN-EN 13451-1 applies to swimming pool equipment, NEN-EN 15288-1 to the pool itself. We take these into account too, for example for the staircase, the balustrades and the landing.

The steel structure

For metal structures we work to NEN 9200. We make the steel towers, staircases and platforms in our own NEN-EN 1090-1 certified workshop in Oudewater and supply them with CE marking. The steel structure is hot-dip galvanised to NEN-EN-ISO 1461.

Inspection

In the Netherlands, a water slide falls under the Attractions and Play Equipment (Commodities Act) Decree. After handover and after major modifications, a designated inspection body inspects the attraction and the client receives a certificate.

Fitting lighting with our mounting module, assessed by an independent inspection body, does not require a full re-inspection, provided the instruction signs are updated.

Splash pads and water playgrounds

NEN-EN 17232 applies to water play elements, together with NEN-EN 1176 for play equipment and NEN-EN 15288-1 for the pool. Read the difference between a splash pad and a water playground.
