Steel structures

Quality and precision are at the heart of our approach to steel structures. We are NEN-EN 1090-1 certified: our structures demonstrably meet high quality requirements.

The process starts with an accurate survey of the site, after which we prepare the structural drawing. This drawing contains all the exact dimensions and specifications of the materials required, so nothing is left to chance.

Once the drawing has been approved, we order the materials required and start production. We use only high-grade structural steel to EN 10025. Our profiles are manufactured to strict DIN standards and the steel tubes are of welded construction. As standard, we use hot-dip galvanised fasteners that meet property class 8.8.

Depending on your requirements, we can finish the structure in various ways. We can hot-dip galvanise the structure (to NEN-EN-ISO 1461), finish it with a powder coating or spray it in a RAL colour of your choice. The coating is applied in several layers, including an epoxy zinc phosphate primer and a high-gloss polyurethane topcoat, providing optimum protection and an attractive finish.

You can read exactly what NEN-EN 1090 certification involves and how we work to the standard on the page NEN-EN 1090.

Would you like us to handle installation on site as well? No problem. Our skilled installers will be happy to take care of it, so you have nothing to worry about.

Accelerator Utrecht Science Park

For BAM Bouw en Techniek, we made the cage structures for the service shafts of this eleven-storey building, with grating floors on every level. In the atrium, we finished the edges of the voids with white sheet metal, with 67,000 holes per panel for better acoustics.

“AVASTO does big things, but also takes care of the small things.” BAM site manager, in De Ondernamen

Passenger information displays for NS and ProRail

At the end of 2019, NS and ProRail replaced the familiar split-flap board in station concourses with a large digital passenger information display: a single screen showing the departure times for the next half hour at a glance, plus travel advice during disruptions. Utrecht Centraal, Den Haag Centraal and Rotterdam Centraal were among the stations to get one of these new displays.

Streetfurniture supplied the displays on behalf of NS and ProRail; we made the steel housings and supporting structures of this new model for them. Every station has its own size and its own position in the concourse, so every display is custom-made.

Street furniture for Streetfurniture

For many years, we have been making steelwork for public spaces for Streetfurniture, from one-offs to complete series. One example is the housings and structures for the new NS and ProRail passenger information displays, the digital successor to the split-flap board.

Modular frames for Carrier

For Carrier, we make modular frames that make large cooling and heating units mobile for rental. The frames carry heavy machines and are moved and transported again and again. Safety and strength calculations therefore come first.

Modular
Frames for chillers, buffer tanks and combinations of these, matched to machines of different capacities.
Calculated
Every frame is calculated for the weight of the machine and for moving and transport.
Mobile for rental
The machines sit on their frames, ready to go to the next job. We also converted a chiller for use at TenneT.
In series

Sheet metal and bending work for Van den Akker Metaaltechniek

For many years, we have been producing sheet metal and bending work, drawings and structures for Van den Akker Metaaltechniek. These are often series of tens to hundreds of parts, which we produce from a drawing or sketch.

Parts in series
Back panels and aluminium frames for information panels, poster box supports, glass clamps and light fitting plates.
DIN plates
Supplied regularly since 2009, for mounting implements on vehicles.
Custom bending work
Profiles, trays and cladding in steel, Sendzimir galvanised steel, aluminium and stainless steel.
Drawings and structures
Structural drawings, staircases, canopies and Corten steel angles.

More regular clients

Besides large projects, we make parts and steelwork for many companies, as one-off orders or in series.

Bentstaal
Staircases, brackets, lintels and milled angles, including for the Fabriekskwartier, the Stadswerven in Dordrecht and a new Aldi in Putten.
BAM Bouw en Techniek
Steelwork, gratings and trimmer steel, including for The Bridge at Utrecht Science Park, and pedestals for charging points.
Minirooftop
Roof penetrations and base and top plates in series of hundreds.
Kovobel
Parts and coupling frames for bicycle racks.
Loe Special Products
